First For Safety offers the IHSA's (Infrastructure Health and Safety Association) Working At Heights: Fundamentals of Fall Protection Certification program. As of April 1, 2015, workers who use any of the following methods of fall protection will need to complete a working at heights training program that has been approved by Ontario's Chief Prevention Officer and that meets Training Program Standards:

  1. Travel restraint system
  2. Fall restricting system
  3. Fall arrest system
  4. Safety net
  5. Work belt
  6. Safety belt


COURSE CONTENT: Content includes Ontario's Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) "Green Book" Regulations pertaining to Construction Sites and Projects in Ontario Workplaces, Rights and Responsibilities, Working At Heights Responsibilities, Recognizing Fall Hazards, Eliminating Fall Hazards, Fall Protection System Components, Inspecting Fall Protection Equipment, Anchors and Lifelines, Ladder Safety and other Access Structures, Guarding, Emergency Rescue and Suspension Trauma, Calculating Total Fall Distances, Fall Arrest Planning, and more.

PARTICIPANT MATERIALS:

IHSA Working At Heights Participant Manual, IHSA Working At Heights Quick Reference Manual, Record of Training is provided for all Employers


COURSE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Candidates are required to bring the following PPE to the course: CSA-Approved footwear, a hard hat, and safety glasses
  • Successfully completion of practical and written examinations required
  • Attend and participate in 100% of the course


COURSE TIMES:

Seven (7) hours including a lunch break and additional washroom breaks


CERTIFICATES:

Temporary certificates are issued upon successful completion of the course, ensuring successful participants can leave the course with proof of certification. Proof of Training card will then be mailed to each successful participant directly from the Ministry of Labour after the course.


PRICING: $195 + HST per participant; Payment is required to confirm registration.

Need a certificate re-print? Fill out this Training Certificate Replacement Form on the IHSA's website to request a replacement. Please expect a three week wait for it to arrive in the mail.


We offer the IHSA’s Working at Heights – Fundamentals of Fall Protection training program. Course includes: Module 1 Basic Theory (3 hours) which is knowledge and theory based, covering rights and responsibilities, hazard identification, PPE requirements, warning methods, physical barriers, and ladder safety. Module 2 Practical (3 - 4 hours) includes hands-on demonstration of equipment and procedures and the proper use of fall protection gear. Candidates must complete both the theory and practical modules and demonstrate competency to complete the course and receive a temporary certificate upon completion. Certification valid for three years from date of issue.
