Participants learn about being safe when they are without the direct supervision of an adult, parent or guardian for short periods of time in this blended Home Alone program provided by First For Safety. We take the best content from the new 2017 Canadian Red Cross Stay Safe! program and the Canadian Safety Council's Home Alone program to prepare participants to stay home alone for short periods of time.

PREREQUISITES: 10 years of age + at time of course

MATERIALS: Course materials and certificate of completion

COURSE CONTENT:

  • The importance of responsibility and respect while being accountable for yourself
  • How to make good decisions
  • The importance of setting and following safety rules when on your own
  • How to stay safe at home within the community
  • How to prepare for, recognize and respond to unexpected situations (i.e. inclement weather, strangers, phone calls, and unanticipated visitors)
  • Basic first aid skills
  • Additional content taught at First For Safety: What you need in a first aid kit, how to use a fire extinguisher, internet safety, and more.
